The Elm Gallery

The Elm Gallery, Topcliffe, Yorkshire, England

The Elm Gallery is within The Old Post House in Topcliffe. The building dates back to the 1700s and is listed. It still has the original shop window and up until 40 years ago, it was the village Post Office. The Old Post House was purchased in 2015 by Liz and Dave Marsh, who are both Yorkshire artists.

For many years they had a gallery on the edge of Ilkley Moor. They now live and work at The Old Post House and the commercial side of the building has been made into a lovely gallery with three rooms of paintings, prints, cards and beautiful hand made things. Both Liz and Dave have very different styles of painting. Liz is a mixed media artist and uses a wide range of art materials, including watercolour, gouache, pastels and metallic inks. Her favourite subjects include bare trees, stunning skies, bold flowers and vibrant leaves. Dave works mainly in watercolour, gouache and pen and ink. He mostly paints landscapes, animals and birds. As well as Liz and Dave's art, the gallery sells ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, glass, wood, textiles, gift wrap and lots of other handmade things, mostly created by Yorkshire artists and makers. Liz also makes bags using a wide range of fabrics and often embellished with vintage buttons and beads. The gallery has a homely and relaxed atmosphere and you will be made very welcome.

The Elm Gallery is in the lovely village of Topcliffe, about 5 miles from Thirsk. As well as the gallery, Topcliffe has two pubs - The Swan and The Angel, both do really good food and accommodation and there is also a Post Office.
