Highlands - Bed and Breakfast Accommodation

The Highlands has so much history and culture. You can visit the site of the Battle of Culloden or go to see where the Massacre of Glencoe took place and these are just two of the notable historical sites available to the many thousands of visitors who arrive each year. Whether you choose to stay in one of the many Highlands bed and breakfast establishments which offer a tasty full Scottish breakfast or decide to spend a relaxing time in a self catering cottage or apartment, this is a unique region of the UK that is just waiting to be explored.

The peace and tranquility in the windswept mountains is strongly contrasted by the wealth of exciting activities and events that take place in the Highlands every year. Adventurous thrill seekers can opt to try Quad Bike and 4 X 4 Tours, a company that offers an exciting experience for all the family. Guided tours of 1, 2 and 3 1/2 hours take you through the beautiful Cairngorms National Park, an area that covers some 3,800 square kilometers or further west to Lochaber. Visiting rivers with fast white water rapids, impressive waterfalls, stately manses and Baronial castles, these tours are full of fun and utterly memorable.

At the centre of the region there are extensive forests and what better way to become immersed in the glorious countryside than to opt for glamping accommodation. If you want the pleasure of being close to nature but with deluxe facilities that can include a hot tub, barbecue, flat screen TV and WiFi, this is an excellent choice.

Situated on the East coast is the Tarbat Discovery Centre Museum with displays of Pictish art, crafts and finds from the Iron Age.

The snow covered slopes of Aviemore and Glencoe are just two places that are highly recommended to visitors but the Highlands has something for everyone. Stay somewhere that is pet friendly and you can walk your dog for mile after mile on the majestic craggy hills where you may only encounter sheep and the famous Highland cattle.

The Highlands are a paradise for hikers and climbers. But, this astounding part of the UK is also so much more. There are plenty of opportunities for cheap family days out. Go to see the dolphins at Kessock Bridge or pay a visit to Loch Ness and try to spot Nessie from Urquhart Castle. The Highlands never ceases to astound and amaze. As a welcoming place to visit, the Highlands has it all. Friendly locals, fabulous surroundings and so many places to see. Most of the attractions are easily accessible and there is no shortage of wheelchair friendly accommodation.

With a wealth of events and attractions on offer at all times of the year, there is always something new to experience. Bowhunter Archery at Nairn is a great family day out. After instruction you can practice shooting dragons, dinosaurs or even zombies. If you like competition, there is combat archery which is much like dodge ball but with safety bows and arrows. Just a 20 minute drive from Inverness and close to beaches with picturesque scenery, this is an excellent day out.

Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most picturesque sites in the Highlands and when the sun is setting there is no lovelier place to be. This stunning castle, which has featured in many films and TV programs, is situated at the confluence of three lochs and is connected to the mainland by a charming footbridge.

One of the UK's most beautiful regions, the Highlands offers a unique kind of holiday. Pay a visit and you will be entranced and leave with a lifetime of memorable moments.
