The Tall Pines Yurt and Bunkhouse, Helmsdale is a family-run business offering glamping and self catering accommodation. Paul and Jacqueline look forward to welcoming you to stay with them on their croft. They love the countryside and wildlife and taking their dogs (Max & Holly) on walks around the surrounding area where there are breath-taking views of the coastline of the Moray Firth and where there is plenty of wildlife to view such as deer, birds-of-pray, dolphins and on a good day orca whales.
Catering for up to 4 people, The Tall Pines traditional Mongolian yurt comprises all you could wish for in modern-day glamping whilst still retaining the romantic atmosphere of the East. It is totally off-grid with wood-burning stove, fully equipped cooking area with gas cooker, double bed, double bed-settee and adjacent shower, toilet and washing cubicle. Fairy lights, Lamps and solar lights add to the atmosphere and experience. Enjoy complete privacy in your own fenced-off garden with bbq and seating area or relax with something refreshing, seated at the bistro table on the decking platform. All of this with the addition of private parking.
As many of their guests stay for just one night, either on route to and from the Orkneys or as part of the NC500, they decided to build the bunkhouse. This is much more suited to short stays but without losing the comforts and attention-to-detail of the yurt. They converted the outhouse next to it into a storage/drying room. This makes provision for cyclists or motorcyclists who need somewhere dry and secure to store their equipment overnight and who need to quickly dry out wet clothing. As it is an extension of their house, the hosts are always on-hand if needed. Not only that but this means that guests share the benefit of the beautiful sea views across the Moray Firth that they also enjoy from their hillside location.
The Tall Pines Yurt is set in the grounds of our de-crofted land on the hill at West Helmsdale with stunning views over the Moray Firth. As it's name suggests, it fits snugly in the middle of a semi-circle of pine trees with its own private garden in front.
The Bunkhouse is attached to our stone-built crofthouse which looks out from the hill, over the beautiful expanse of sea.
Our location has a wonderful a birds-eye view of Helmsdale and it's harbour. This is a beautiful village in the North East Highlands between Brora in the south and Berriedale to the north. It is accessed directly off the A9 and is a welcoming stop-over for anyone travelling the NC500. The River Helmsdale runs alongside the village and boasts some of the best salmon fishing in Scotland. The village has 2 pubs, 2 cafes, a gift shop, museum, harbour, restaurant and the best fish and chips in the Highlands - be careful though; their portion sizes are HUGE!
