The famous town of Oban is a popular place to visit. Sitting in the Firth of Lorn, the almost perfect horseshoe bay is a stunning scenic backdrop to this pretty town. The Corrans Hall in Oban hosts touring companies like the Scottish Opera. A unique landmark is McCaig's Tower which dominates the town. The structure is based on the design for the Coliseum of Rome and was erected as a lasting monument to the family of John Stuart McCaig, a wealthy philanthropist and banker. From Oban you can take a ferry to the islands of Mull, Coll, Barra and Iona. Or, if you prefer you can fly to some of the islands from the new local airport.
