The county of Norfolk lies on the East coast of England and although you will not find hills to climb, there are lots of lovely places to see and things to do. Seaside resorts, cultural activities, wildlife and heritage sites as well as many more unique attractions are found in this beautiful county. With a pleasant climate that offers less rain and more sun than many other areas of the UK, Norfolk is an ideal place for a holiday.
The city of Norwich dates from Roman times and many people come for a weekend break enjoying the vibrant atmosphere and visiting places of historic interest like the cathedral, the castle and the museum. Norfolk also has many smaller market towns and plenty of relaxing countryside as well as impressive coastal resorts. Great Yarmouth is the most famous resort and was an important port during the Napoleonic Wars. There are Tudor, Georgian and Victorian buildings and some ancient alleyways known as the Maze. The town has two piers and a Winter Gardens plus plenty of amusements, a model village and some great sandy beaches.
Wells Beach is ideal place for bird watching, walking the dog and has miles of unspoilt sand and dunes as well as beach huts. Care should be taken as the beach can be cut off by the tide. Close by are salt marshes and a beautiful national nature reserve.
The crowning glory of the county is the Norfolk Broads which cover 303 square kilometres. If you love waterways you can't go wrong with a stay on the Broads. Choose one of the many bed and breakfast accommodations and hire a day boat. Then, meander through rivers and broads that have stunning landscapes with windmills, traditional pubs and small villages where you will be welcomed by the friendly locals. If you prefer self catering accommodation there are many cottages, holiday homes and lodges from which to choose.
Once you have arrived you will be delighted with the number of attractions that Norfolk has on offer. Just outside Sheringham there are wonderful gardens which offer peace and tranquillity as well as a super fun maze.
Banham Zoo is an award winning attraction and is perfect for a family day out. Parking is free and you can eat at the Pavilion Cafe or the Pavilion Pantry. In addition, the Woodland Snack Shack offers snacks, coffees and ice creams. Banham Zoo is open throughout the year with a variety of events and good access for less abled visitors. You can see magnificent big cats, a wide variety of primates and watch the sea lions being fed. The zoo is feted for its projects that help to ensure the conservation of endangered species.
For a completely different experience try the latest top attraction in Norfolk, the Cryptic Escape. One of the best escape rooms in the country, Cryptic Escape is a real challenge and is open to people of all ages. The object of the game is to escape from a locked room using a series of puzzles and finding hidden objects all within a set time frame. Located in Augustine Steward House at Tombland, this great experience is open 7 days a week and the first games commence at 10.00 a.m. A live escape room is a fantastic challenge and a great way to spend an hour with family or friends. Teamwork is the key so you need to cooperate to beat the clock and then settle down with some food and drinks to enjoy a full debrief of your exploits.
The actor Stephen Fry is a great fan of Norfolk with its 'wild roughness' and 'uncultivated oddities' and the county of Norfolk's motto is 'Do Different'. So, whether you want to take part in boating, walking, cycling, learning about some of the fascinating history of the county or just relaxing, Norfolk has a tremendous amount to offer which is why it is one of the most visited areas in the UK. #uktravelandtourism #visitNorfolk
