Angus - Pet Friendly Accommodation

Surrounded by rugged mountains and dotted with rolling hills and beautiful glens, Angus offers visitors the opportunity to be at one with nature in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Situated on the East coast of Scotland, Angus is an ideal location for birdwatching, rambling and viewing the magnificent castles that are found all over this part of Scotland. Angus is one of the most welcoming regions in Scotland and the huge variety of accommodation includes many pet friendly hotels, self catering cottages and flats as well as campsites. If you want to eat in you can buy local fresh produce or choose to eat out at one of the many restaurants, cafes or local pubs which all offer diverse menus.

Looking for a break from catering? Staying at a bed and breakfast can be the answer to your needs. The people of Scotland are exceptionally welcoming and none more so than those who offer a comfortable room and tasty breakfast. You can stay in one of the larger towns or opt for a quieter holiday in a village like Edzell, a quaint and beautiful place just six miles north of Brechin. The Dalhousie Arch is a distinctive landmark in Edzell and it spans the main road from the South making the village look far older than it actually is. This village is also well known for the Rocks of Solitude Walk which takes you through a rugged and stunning gorge by the River North Esk.

The Angus Coastal Route is a popular choice for serious walkers and this begins at Dundee, a fascinating city where there are events throughout the year. The Gallery Q Dundee exhibits works by artists from Scotland as well as from other areas. You can browse around beautiful ceramics, glass, jewellery, textiles, sculptures and paintings. Exhibits change every month so the range of artwork is always fresh. Just a ten minute walk away from the main railway station, Gallery Q Dundee give you an opportunity to own an original piece from both artists who are household names or one of the emerging talents from Scotland.

Arbroath is another special town in Angus and is renowned for its world famous smoked fish (Smokies). This traditional seaside resort has a medieval history and dates back to 1178 when the monks founded the Abbey. The original harbour was constructed and looked after by the Abbot. Both the Abbey and the harbour attract thousands of visitors each year and in the summer there is the Seafront Spectacular event which includes an airshow and the Seafest which celebrates the maritime history of the town.

Further on up the East Coast of Angus lies Montrose, another coastal resort town with a two mile wide tidal lagoon where the River South Esk meets the North Sea. Wildlife abounds in the Montrose Basin Nature Reserve with thousands of migratory birds passing through the area in every season of the year. And then there is Montrose Beach, a three mile stretch of sand awarded the Blue Flag for its perfect ecological credentials.

The inland area of Angus is just as stunning and is perfect for holidays. You can marvel at the wonderful waterfall (the Reekie Lin) at Glen Isla. In fact, there are five glens in the western region of Angus. As well as Glen Isla, if you have the energy, you can ski at Glen Shee the most southerly ski station in Scotland.

Twenty mile long Glen Cova is popular with serious walkers and Glen Esk has paths that lead to stunning waterfalls as well as a folk museum. The quietest and least known glen is Glen Lethnot. Flanked by heather covered hills and moorlands, this is another historic part of Scotland that is a must to visit. Angus is full of great places to see and you will never be short of something to do. Shopaholics can indulge in their favourite pastime in The Overgate Shopping Centre at Dundee while historians will find a wealth of sites with Glamis Castle, the childhood home of the Queen Mother, being top of the list.

Glamis Castle has been home to the Lyon family since the 14th century although the present castle dates from the 17th century. It is a category A listed building with beautiful landscaped gardens and throughout the year there is a variety of events taking place.

All this and much more is Angus. A beautiful region full of events, attractions and the perfect place for a family holiday.
