Titanic Belfast - Discover the Fascinating Story of RMS Titanic at Belfast's World-Famous Maritime Attraction
Titanic Belfast is one of Northern Ireland's most famous visitor attractions, situated in the historic Titanic Quarter on the waterfront of Belfast. Located beside the original shipbuilding site of RMS Titanic, this spectacular museum explores the history of the legendary ocean liner, the people who built her and the events surrounding her tragic maiden voyage in 1912.
Opened in 2012, Titanic Belfast stands beside the historic slipways where Titanic and her sister ship Olympic were constructed by Harland and Wolff. Its striking architecture, inspired by Belfast's shipbuilding heritage, has become one of the city's most recognisable landmarks.
The main attraction, known as the Titanic Experience, takes visitors through ten interactive galleries exploring the story of Titanic from its beginnings in industrial Belfast to its discovery on the ocean floor.
Visitors begin by discovering Belfast during its industrial heyday, when the city was one of the world's leading centres for shipbuilding. Fascinating displays reveal the enormous scale of the Harland and Wolff shipyard and the skilled workforce responsible for constructing Titanic.
One of the highlights is the Shipyard Ride, which recreates the sights and sounds of the busy shipbuilding industry. This immersive experience helps visitors understand the extraordinary engineering and craftsmanship involved in building the enormous ocean liner.
Further galleries explore Titanic's launch, luxurious interiors, passenger accommodation and preparations for her maiden voyage. Interactive displays bring to life the experiences of passengers and crew travelling aboard the famous ship.
The exhibition also examines the tragic sinking of Titanic in April 1912, when the ship struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean. Personal stories, historical records and atmospheric displays offer a moving insight into the disaster and its lasting impact.
Visitors can discover the subsequent investigations, the search for the wreck and the remarkable discovery of Titanic on the ocean floor in 1985. The exhibition includes authentic artefacts and fascinating information about the ship's continuing legacy.
A major highlight of a visit is SS Nomadic, the last remaining White Star Line vessel in the world. Located nearby in Hamilton Dock, this beautifully restored ship once transported first-class and second-class passengers to Titanic in Cherbourg, France.
Visitors can step aboard SS Nomadic to explore its historic interiors and discover more about passenger travel during the early 20th century. Admission to SS Nomadic is included with a standard Titanic Experience ticket.
Outside the museum, visitors can explore the historic Titanic Slipways and surrounding waterfront. These outdoor areas provide an opportunity to appreciate the enormous scale of the original shipbuilding site and enjoy views across Belfast's Maritime Mile.
Titanic Belfast is a popular attraction for families, with interactive displays, immersive experiences and educational exhibits suitable for a wide range of ages. The self-guided Titanic Experience normally takes approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours to complete.
