Great Orme Tramway - Ride Britain's only cable-operated street tramway.
The Great Orme Tramway is one of North Wales' most iconic attractions, carrying visitors from the centre of Llandudno to the magnificent Great Orme headland. First opened in 1902, this historic tramway is the only remaining cable-operated street tramway in Great Britain and one of the few surviving systems of its kind anywhere in the world.
Operating seasonally from late March until late October, the tramway climbs the Great Orme in two stages. Passengers travel from Victoria Station to the Halfway Station, where they transfer to a second tram for the final ascent towards the summit. The lower section runs through the streets of Llandudno, while the upper section follows its own dedicated route, offering spectacular views across the town, coastline and Irish Sea.
The journey itself is an unforgettable experience, combining fascinating Victorian engineering with breathtaking scenery. At the summit, visitors can enjoy panoramic views stretching across North Wales, the Isle of Man and, on clear days, as far as the Lake District. There are also walking trails, a visitor centre, caf?s and opportunities to spot the Great Orme's famous wild Kashmiri goats.
Owned and operated by Conwy County Borough Council, the Great Orme Tramway remains one of Wales' most unique heritage attractions and is a must-do experience when visiting Llandudno.
Plan your visit to the Great Orme Tramway and enjoy one of Britain's most memorable historic railway journeys.
