Aira Force Waterfall - Discover a Spectacular Waterfall in the Lake District

Aira Force Waterfall is one of the Lake District's most beautiful natural attractions, situated near Ullswater in Cumbria. Surrounded by ancient woodland, dramatic rocky gorges and picturesque countryside, this impressive waterfall plunges approximately 20 metres (65 feet) into the stream below. Cared for by the National Trust, Aira Force is renowned for its spectacular scenery, charming stone bridges and peaceful woodland setting, attracting walkers, photographers and nature enthusiasts throughout the year.

Visitors can follow scenic woodland trails alongside Aira Beck, passing moss-covered rocks, towering trees and smaller cascades before reaching the magnificent waterfall. Historic stone bridges provide excellent viewpoints from above and below the falls, offering wonderful opportunities for photography. The surrounding trails also connect with Gowbarrow Fell, where more experienced walkers can enjoy breathtaking views across Ullswater and the surrounding mountains. Seasonal colours make the woodland particularly beautiful during spring and autumn.

Aira Force Waterfall is free to explore throughout the year, although parking charges apply for non-National Trust members. Facilities include visitor parking, toilets and seasonal refreshments, with opening arrangements varying throughout the year. The woodland paths contain steep sections, stone steps and uneven surfaces, which may be challenging for visitors with limited mobility. Nearby attractions include Ullswater, Glenridding, Pooley Bridge and the beautiful Ullswater Way walking route.
