Plas Mawr - Discover One of Britain's Finest Elizabethan Townhouses in Historic Conwy

Plas Mawr is a magnificent Elizabethan townhouse situated on the High Street in the historic walled town of Conwy, North Wales. Renowned for its beautifully preserved interiors, elaborate plasterwork and fascinating Tudor history, it is widely regarded as one of the finest surviving Elizabethan townhouses in Britain.

The house was transformed between 1576 and 1585 by Robert Wynn, a wealthy Welsh gentleman who had travelled extensively through Europe while serving Tudor diplomats. His impressive residence reflected his growing wealth, social status and appreciation of fashionable Elizabethan architecture.

Visitors can explore 17 beautifully presented rooms, including the great hall, bedchambers, kitchen and elegant reception rooms. The interiors feature richly decorated ceilings, colourful ornamental plasterwork, period furnishings and architectural details that offer a fascinating glimpse into the lives of a prosperous Tudor household.

One of the most distinctive features is the elaborate plasterwork displaying Robert Wynn's initials throughout the property. The beautifully restored rooms and atmospheric courtyards help bring the history of the house and its former occupants to life.

Outside, visitors can discover the recreated Elizabethan garden, which adds another dimension to the historic experience. An audio tour and on-site exhibition provide further opportunities to learn about the building's history and its remarkable restoration.
