Barley Cottage has an additional mezzanine level that is ideal for tranquil moments of contemplation, indulging in some reading or simply watching the River Nene flow past as it dives under the old mill sluice gates.

Countryside cottage breaks should be tranquil which is why we have created what we feel to be the ideal holiday cottage environment for you to enjoy. With a traditional decor yet modern kitchens and bathrooms, you will definitely feel like you have stepped in to something very different that will put you at ease and allow you to forget the strains of the world.

Whether you want to take long walks in the countryside or practice painting in a beautiful riverside setting, our countryside cottage breaks offer something for everyone. The tranquil setting is ideal for family meet-ups, travellers, photographers, walkers and explorers, and those who want a quiet, romantic break.

If you have a dog/pet and wish to book with us, please call before booking to make sure we are able to accommodate your needs. We accept small to medium (max 20kgs) sized dogs.

We have a seasonally heated swimming pool situated within our walled garden that is for cottage guests only. We do not allow day visitors to use the pool in order to protect the privacy and experience of our other guests.

Barley Cottage, a Two Bed Cottage in Cambridgeshire, is located on the banks of the River Nene (Lock 29) in the small hamlet of Water Newton just outside Peterborough and just off the A1 as you head north towards Wansford and Stamford, Lincolnshire.

Water Newton is a tiny village in the style of a Cotswold stone village surrounded by open countryside, farmlands and birdlife wetlands with activities such as a steam railway, skydiving, an educational farm for children and the Nene Park Trust with its myriad of family activity centres.
