Bluebell Cottage, Firbank is an idyllic small self catering cottage for two tucked away along a quiet country lane; no crowds, few cars, just wonderful high fells, a beautiful river and ancient woodlands to explore in a lovely quiet valley of old Westmorland.
Bluebell is a delightful place; it has just been completely renovated to a very high standard and is luxuriously comfortable. The cottage is furnished in country style with Liberty and Laura Ashley fabrics, antique pine furniture, an old elm staircase and little curios in the nooks and crannies. Everything is included in the price; central heating, a large basket of logs in winter, electricity, luxurious bed linen, sumptuous towels and luxury toiletries, free WIFI, a Smart tv and free Netflix.

The shower room has a power shower and Victorian style polished brass fittings. The pretty, country style bedroom has a beamed ceiling, blissfully comfortable 5 bed, windows overlooking the garden and antique pine furniture. The newly-fitted kitchen is a pleasure to use and is well equipped with Bosch dishwasher, Bosch electric fan oven, electric induction hob, microwave oven, larder fridge, freezer, electric toaster, etc., pretty china and a good selection of cutlery and cookware. Utility area with washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer.
Bluebell has its own private garden surrounding the cottage with a natural waterfall and interesting country garden plants. There are seats to sit in the sun and seats to sit in the shade all with lovely views and garden furniture for outdoor meals on the terrace overlooking the waterfall. The mountain scenery surrounding the cottage is breathtaking and as you would expect in such an unspoilt area, there is a marvellous variety of wildlife; pied flycatchers and redstarts nest in the garden, there are badger setts in the nearby woods and the occasional sighting of roe and red deer.
One of the greatest delights of staying at Bluebell Cottage, Firbank is being able to lace up your walking boots, pack a light lunch and stroll along the glorious River Lune; surrounded by high fells, ancient woodland, wild flowers and rushing waterfalls, you will forget time as you watch the clear green water tumbling along, stopping to skim pebbles across the still pools and catching the flash of turquoise on the kingfishers wing.
In all weathers this is a lovely walk; lazy and soporific in the summer; exhilarating and brisk in the winter, gentle if you stay by the river, challenging if you make a day of it and walk up into the high fells.
The scenery around the Cottage is beautiful; high fells, woodland, meadows and rushing river. Wild flowers flourish and wildlife abounds; deer, otters, peregrines and many other rare birds. A handwritten guidebook, especially for guests, describes walks straight from the door and equally beautiful ones nearby with a short drive.
Sedbergh is the nearest big village and is now a book town so has lots of places to browse around and one or two antique shops. Dent is a very pretty village with cobbled streets and interesting art galleries. And Kirkby Lonsdale is just lovely; touristy but unspoilt, this beautiful, tiny market town has lots of interesting shops, great places for lunch, cafe bars with pretty gardens, really good restaurants, a very attractive ancient church and glorious river-side walks.
