Mardon Cottage, Drewsteignton and its mirror image sister Butterdon were converted from stone barns, and comprehensively renovated in 2015. They now each provide stylish self catering accommodation for 5 people.
Great care has been taken to provide all mod cons needed for a perfect holiday, whilst retaining the historical features and unique feel of the original barn.
Our guests regularly tell us that they love the attention to detail, with all soft furnishings being hand made, soft ambient lighting and a glowing woodburning stove, creating a mood in which you can truly relax.
Guests will love the outdoor space at Clifford Barton. There is acres of room to roam and a safe space for children to play.
The large grassy area, framed by the three cottages and the games room is the perfect place to meet other guests and swap ideas of activities and destinations and for children to make friends and plan adventures. It has hosted gymnastic competitions, herb soup stalls, roly-poly competitions, and mud hedgehog production.
Children (and adults) love the long winding drive, perfect for scootering, skateboarding and biking - which can all be borrowed from the bike pool. There are 50 acres of woodland, grassland and lake to explore. The new letterboxing activity encourages kids to explore the site.
A track wends it way through the old farmyard to the lake (approx. 1/2 km wander). There is a picnic bench at the lake so another great location to enjoy the view and watch the swallows and swifts feed over the lake or catch the vivid colours of the kingfisher flash by.
The track is also a favoured feeding location for the badger, and in the spring if your lucky you might see cubs playing in the dusk light.
Mardon Cottage is situated in the Teign Valley, in the north east of the Dartmoor National Park, with its superabundance of stunning places to explore, from the extensive wilderness of the open moorland and breathtaking tors, the ancient wooded valleys and wild rolling rivers.
Walking is good for body, mind and soul, and where better to do it than in some of the most magical landscapes in the world.
Explore the magnificence of Dartmoor's 950 square kms of awe inspiring granite tors, rugged wide open spaces, deep wooded valleys and fast flowing rivers. Whether a challenging trek across windswept moors, or just a relaxing stroll through secluded woods, you've come to the right place.
The River Teign is a short walk away. Relax in the cool waters, enjoy the wildlife and scenery and the iridescent turquoise of a kingfisher flashing by.
The salmon leaps, one of the best wild swimming spots in the South West, is a stunning hour's walk away.
At Mardon Cottage there is a range of kids and adult bikes that you are very welcome to borrow. Cycle up the track alongside the River Teign to chill out at the Fingle Bridge Inn with a pint and plate of cheesy chips.
If you need a bit more exercise, leave the bikes at the pub and carry on up the spectacular Teign Gorge to the National Trust's Castle Drogo for a cream tea.
