Secluded Edwardian house in Bury St Edmunds
Top Deck at The Cabin - spacious two-bedroom self-catering apartment in a historic Edwardian house in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Top Deck at The Cabin offers distinctive self-catering accommodation within a beautiful Edwardian house in the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Originally built in 1904, The Cabin is a grand and characterful property with a fascinating maritime-inspired design, reflecting its original connection to the Royal Navy.

The recently renovated Top Deck occupies the converted loft space on the second floor, combining the charm and history of this unusual building with modern comforts. With approximately 711 square feet (66 square metres) of accommodation, it provides a welcoming retreat for couples, families and friends looking to explore Suffolk.

The apartment features two spacious bedrooms, each furnished with a comfortable king-size bed and generous storage space, providing flexible accommodation for up to four guests. A modern bathroom with shower offers contemporary facilities, while the comfortable sitting room provides a relaxing space to unwind after a day exploring the local area. An adjoining kitchenette allows guests to prepare light meals and refreshments, making Top Deck a convenient choice for independent self-catering stays. The thoughtfully renovated interiors create a bright and comfortable environment while retaining the individual character of this historic Edwardian property.

The Cabin has a particularly interesting history, having been commissioned by a wealthy lady for her nephew, an officer in the Royal Navy. Its architectural design was inspired by the sailing ships of the 19th century, with the house even constructed along the cardinal points of the compass. During the 1920s, the roof space was converted into accommodation for three household servants, before the building later served as a guest house and private family residence. In 2024, the current owners, who live in the main part of the house, completed an extensive renovation of the entire second floor and its access, transforming the former loft accommodation into the beautifully presented Top Deck apartment.

With its fascinating heritage, spacious accommodation and convenient location in Bury St Edmunds, Top Deck at The Cabin provides an excellent base for discovering the town and surrounding Suffolk countryside. Guests can enjoy the independence of their own accommodation while staying within a unique historic property, with the town's shops, restaurants, markets and cultural attractions nearby.

Whether visiting for a relaxing weekend, exploring Suffolk's historic towns or enjoying a longer countryside break, Top Deck offers a memorable and characterful place to stay.
