Achadh-a'Mhullaich

Penmore, Dervaig, Isle of Mull, PA75 6QS

Located on the beautiful Isle of Mull
Achadh-a'Mhullaich (Mull Cottage), Croig, offers self catering accommodation for up to 6 people.

The cottage has been rebuilt with extensive use of wood in the panelling of the walls, exposed beams and some of the furniture and fittings. It has an authentic character of its own, which some have described as a unique backwoods cabin/cottage. The layout of the house is suitable for a group of up to six people, but also it can be intimate enough for quiet holiday for two.

Downstairs it has an extended entrance porch with ample drying space and a tumble drier, a galley kitchen area looking out to the valley through large picture windows. For extra relaxation you have an open plan lounge / dining area with a feature stone wall and real coal stove, colour television, video, CD, audio WiFi and payphone. There is a bathroom with bath, shower and basin, and off the porch a separate small toilet plus basin. There is a double bedroom and double bunk bedroom which is suitable for children or adults. In the double bedroom there is a children's cot available if required.

An open pine leads to a quiet room upstairs for reading, contemplation and conversation. There is a large open area on the landing with games, puzzles and constructional toys designed for children of all ages. Adjoining this space is a further double bedroom furnished in pine, with windows looking out over the valley to the far hills surrounding the house. This bedroom has an en suite bathroom with bath, basin and bidet.
Achadh-aMhullaich is a renovated cottage built of solid stone walls re-constructed from a former crofters house and outbuildings. It is tucked away on its own in a totally secluded valley close to Croig harbour and the sea in the North West of Mull. To get to the house you travel from the village of Dervaig on the road which leads to the sand beaches of Calgary Bay. Halfway down this road at Penmore Mill, you turn right down the road to Croig and then left through the third drive. The track is very firm and suitable for visitors cars, with ample parking available.

From the house there is a lovely view across meadow and hills. There are also pre-historic standing stones nearby. The water for the house is electrically pumped from an underground spring. Just yards from the door there is a small stream and from the hill opposite the house a superb sea view North West to the Ardnamurchan Peninsula and the other Isles.

Within walking distance is the shore-line at Croig harbour and a range of pebble and sandy beaches. The night sky in the valley is spectacular with the clear atmosphere giving you a real planetarium of stars. From the Croig westward there is excellent coastal walking by low basalt cliffs along, idyllic shell-sand beaches and haunting views North to Ardnamurchan, the small Isles of Rhum, Much and the Cuillin mountains of Skye blue on the far distant horizon. Or you can just enjoy the peace, abundant wildlife and farm animals around the house where life takes on a slower pace.
