Overall winner of Channel 4/RICS Great British Buildings Restoration of the Year, Cardigan Castle is believed to be the first stone castle ever built by a Welshman. To celebrate its completion in 1176, Rhys ap Gruffydd (Lord Rhys) hosted a gathering of bards, musicians and performers, the first Eisteddfod. This was the start of the Welsh tradition of cultural festivals that continues today. The understated elegance and sumptuous comfort of the East Wing is a luxurious setting for a memorable holiday. Family and friends will adore the rugged romance of the Castle, lovers of history and tradition will relish soaking up the past from the ancient stone walls and discovering more about the Castle from the exhibitions.
