Another exciting book festival from 12 to 14 November 2021, in the West Highland Hotel, Mallaig.

We are so excited to finally announce our great news, we are up and running and looking forward to welcoming you back to our wonderful celebratory weekend in the West Highland Hotel. As ever, we have an exciting and varied line up with something for everyone.

The Hoolie opens with a free dram on Friday 12th for those attending our opening event. Paul Murton will be chatting about his latest book, The Highlands with musicians Duncan Chisholm and Hamish Napier who will be playing tunes associated with some of the places featured. We are delighted that Duncan and Hamish will also be playing in the bar after dinner on Friday night. Our Saturday musicians are Ingrid Henderson and Iain MacFarlane.

Our authors are:

Chris Brookmyre, Donald S Murray, Ghillie Basan; E S Thomson; Myrtle Simpson; Polly Pullar; Leonie Charlton & Tom Bowser.

Vivian French and Alan Windram will be at Mallaig Primary School, and we aim to assemble as many pupils, including those from the Small Isles, as possible. Chris Brookmyre and Donald Murray will be holding events (Donalds in Gaelic) at the High School, and there will be a special workshop too for senior English pupils with Vivian French, Lee Randall and literary agent Jenny Brown.

This years theme for our schools art and writing competitions is - The Lighthouse, to celebrate Donald Murrays latest book, For the Safety of All: A Story of Scotlands Lighthouses. Our Hoolie ends on Sunday afternoon with lively entertainment for primary children with competition judge Alan Windram, and that splendid tea party we all relished when last we met.

We do hope you will join us.
