Surrey Hills National Landscape - Explore rolling hills, scenic walks and countryside views in Surrey.

The Surrey Hills National Landscape, formerly designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1958, covers around a quarter of Surrey and is one of the most accessible protected landscapes in southeast England. With its mix of chalk ridges, wooded valleys and open countryside, it offers a peaceful escape close to London.

The area includes the highest point in southeast England at Leith Hill, rising to 294 metres above sea level and forming part of the Greensand Ridge. From its summit, visitors can enjoy far reaching views across the surrounding countryside. The landscape connects with other protected areas, including the Kent Downs to the east and the South Downs National Park to the south west.

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore a network of well known long distance walking routes, including the North Downs Way, the Greensand Way and the Pilgrims' Way. Popular locations such as Box Hill, Ranmore Common and Blackheath Common offer scenic trails, viewpoints and opportunities to enjoy nature.

The Surrey Hills are rich in biodiversity, providing habitats for rare plants and insects, with areas such as Chiddingfold Forest recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Managed in part by organisations such as the National Trust, the landscape is carefully preserved for future generations.
