Edinburgh Castle is a historic fortress which dominates the skyline of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, from its position on the Castle Rock.
The castle, in the care of Historic Scotland, is Scotland's most visited paid tourist attraction, with over 1.4 million visitors in 2013. As the backdrop to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo during the annual Edinburgh International Festival the castle has become a recognisable symbol of Edinburgh and of Scotland and indeed, it is Edinburgh's most frequently visited visitor attraction, according to the Edinburgh Visitor Survey, more than 70% of leisure visitors to Edinburgh visited the castle.

The castle opens daily at 9.30am. Closing time varies seasonally. Winter and summer hours are below:-
1 Apr - 30 Sept Last entry 5pm Closing Time 6pm
1 Oct - 31 Mar Last entry 4pm Closing Time 5pm
Please note the Argyle Tower (where the Fight for the Castle exhibition is) will be closed on Tuesday 15 January.
Closing times for independent museums vary.
We recommend you allow at least 2 hours to see all the castle highlights and to get the most out of your visit.
Christmas and New Year.
The castle is closed on 25 and 26 December. On 1 January we are open from 11am to 5pm and normal hours from 2 January.
